As a doctor’s priority is to diagnose the disease or ailment of persons, a pharmacist’s utmost importance is to see that drugs and medicines are manufactured, quality is maintained and it reaches the needy in time.A pharmacist is a person who looks after the manufacturer and blending of drugs and other medical products like tablets, mixture, syrup, ointments, etc, according to the formula given by qualified medical men.
Pharmaceutical science pertains to the development and preparation of drugs (from natural and synthetic sources) which are used in the treatment and prevention of diseases. The nature of a pharmacist’s job is essentially scientific research. Pharmacists have to make use of present knowledge and build on it in a practical view.

Employment opportunities are in pharmaceutical companies, hospitals, nursing homes, clinics, medical stores, etc. Marketing is another option for qualified ones in the field. With many companies springing up a lot of marketing staff is required in India and abroad.
Courses/ Training

The pharmacy courses offered are Bachelor’s degree and Diploma courses. The degree program in pharmacy B.Pharm (Bachelor of Pharmacy) is a four years course which is open to students who have passed Plus Two or equivalent examination with Physics, Chemistry, and Biology.
Admission to the B.Pharm program is on the basis of performance in the entrance examination. States Bapveh their own colleges of pharmacy which conduct the ‘In courses. Admission to state-run colleges is on the basis of state domicile.

Diploma Course

The diploma course in Pharmacy (D.Pharm ) is of tWO year’s duration after PDC or equivalent examination with science (PCB) group. After completing the academic course, one is required to undergo practical training for three months in a recognized hospital, pharmacy, or dispensary. A diploma qualifies one for the job of a dispensing pharmacist in hospitals or the work of a pharmacy technician. Further rise depends upon graduation in the field.
